Lubuagan weds 18 couples in Love Month

Updated: Mar 2, 2022

Lubuagan, Kalinga - Love can wait, love finds timing... this is what the Local Government Unit proved in planning and making time to sponsor a Mass Wedding Ceremony for eighteen (18) iLubuagen couples tying the knot on February 28, 2022. Defying the odds of the pandemic, the 18 couples were married on Monday at the Eco-Tourism Center in Poblacion Lubuagan, solemnized by Lubuagan Mayor Charisma Anne Dickpus and blessed by priests and pastors of the various religious sectors. "I hope that the main and foremost reason why you came here today to be wed is because of your love for each other and nothing else," Mayor Dickpus, in Lubuagan dialect told the couples reminding them of the responsibilities each has to their better halves.

Since Mayor Dickpus first took office in 2019, Mass Wedding Ceremony has become one of the most anticipated annual events in the municipality. The LGU staged its first marriages in 2020, but was hampered the following year due to the Coronavirus pandemic. When restriction eased this year, the LGU said, there is no stopping them to hold wedding ceremonies.

The ceremony which should happen every February, Mayor Dickpus said, is a way to help couples legalized their union without having to spend much on marriage rites expenses, reception and other wedding cost.

During the mass wedding, the couples experienced traditional rites practiced in different houses of worship such as the exchange of wedding ring, taking a vow with the Bible, having an entourage like coin bearers and flower girls.

The religious sectors' representatives who each gave their blessings also advised the couples to respect matrimony as a sacred relationship sanctified by God, that no matter the challenge, their union should always stand pure and unconditional.

The ceremony was followed by a cake-eating and wine-drinking ritual as well as the couples' first dance and first kiss as newly weds. A limited gathering with the couples' immediate families and their ninangs and ninongs also took place with the traditional yKalinga dance pattong and tadok, and a buffet that came after.

Congratulations to the newlyweds!
