Peñarrubia, Abra – A 53-year-old man died after being shot by still-unidentified individuals while he was sleeping inside his room in Peñarrubia, Abra, on December 30, 2025.

Police identified the victim as Daniel Fatorog Pog-ok, a native of Sadanga, Mountain Province, and a farm specialist at the Mt. Carmel Agri-tourism and Training Centre, an agricultural training facility operated by the Abra Diocesan Teachers and Employees Multi-Purpose Cooperative (ADTEMPCO).

A report from the Peñarrubia Municipal Police Station, obtained by local media outlets, initially disclosed that authorities were notified by a concerned citizen at around 7:00 a.m. on the said day.

Upon arrival at the crime scene, responders found three motorcycles overturned near the area, which are now being traced as part of the investigation.

When police entered Pog-ok’s room, the 53-year-old was found lying on his bed with a gunshot wound to the head. He was declared dead at the scene.

Initial investigation revealed that Pog-ok was sleeping inside his bedroom when the assailants forcibly entered the room and shot him in the head, resulting in his death.

The doorknob was also found destroyed, indicating that the assailants forcibly ransacked the victim’s room.

As of this writing, the identities and motives of the suspects are still being established by investigators.

According to The Mountain Beacon, Pog-ok was known for his work in sustainable farming and agricultural training.

In a social media post, fellow employee Lee Collo paid tribute to his friend, recounting his contributions to the cooperative and the local community.

“Brother Daniel Pog-ok, you nurtured plants to feed people. You shared your expertise with the cooperative and the diocese. You forged friendships with so many people. You came and lived with us in Abra. We were about to start a new project sana—the continuation of our coffee hub dream for Abra. Anya metten! We lost an expert farmer, and your family lost a beloved member. Your demise here is so painful. May justice prevail, and may your brutal death be avenged, brother!” Collo wrote.
