Man wanted for stabbing vegetable packer to death in Benguet arrested

La Trinidad, Benguet – A suspect who stabbed a vegetable packer to death in Benguet in 2020 was arrested by police on Monday, January 24.

The police reported that Edwin Villegas Rosario, 47 years old from Pangasinan, has been at large for over a year after killing Larion Chayao, also from Pangasinan, with fatal stab wounds in December 2020. The motive for the crime, however, is still unclear.

The victim’s sister, Angeline Chayao, told PTV that Rosario and Chayao were both working as vegetable packers in La Trinidad, Benguet.

Police arrested Rosario through a warrant of arrest in Betag, La Trinidad, Benguet on January 24, 2022.

Authorities found out that Rosario was hiding in Calamba City, and in January this year, the suspect came back to La Trinidad to work at the Strawberry Farm.

PLt. Ringo Medalla, Chief investigator of La Trinidad Municipal Police Station, in an interview with PTV, said they were able to arrest the suspect with the help of witnesses and CCTV footage.

The suspect is considered the No. 5 Top Most Wanted Person in the Provincial Level in the 1st Quarter of 2022.
