Poblacion, Mankayan – To continue to minimize as well as to manage the cases in the Municipality of Mankayan in Benguet Province, the said LGU plans to secure a vaccine against CoviD-19 with the help of national agencies.

Part of the plan is to prioritize their farmers to be vaccinated to protect them against the disease as they are the foundation of food supply in the municipality including all other LGUs in the country.

“We would want to connect with the national agencies para ho we will be securing how we can provide vaccine for our people of Mankayan especially ho sa mga farmers natin because kailangan natin ho – tuloy-tuloy ang galaw ng mga farmers natin to secure the provision of foods po sa atin and of course the other parts of the Philippines kasi ho,” announced Local Chief Executive Attorney Frenzel Ayong during a regular Laging Handa Network Briefing News aired on Wednesday, January 12.

“Mankayan which is part of Benguet, is real known that 80 percent ng semi-temperate ng vegetable ng ating bansa ay galing ho sa Benguet,” he added.

The municipality of Mankayan is one of the top five vegetable-producing municipalities in Benguet Province. According to data in 2018 from the Benguet Provincial Agriculture Office, Mankayan has a total of 9,133 farmers, mostly engaged in the production of leafy, fruits and root vegetables.

LGU Mankayan was also among those who donated vegetables to nearby provinces during the impact of CoViD-19 situation last year.

Meantime during the press briefing, Ayong informed that the LGU realized lessons the pandemic has shown since last year and expressed that there is a need of cooperation between the government and its constituents to effectively combat CoViD-19.

“The government needs to continuously partner with its constituents ho. We were able to see the government cannot do it alone. Ganun ho yung isang nakita namin. Moving forward, we need to keep engaging with our people because government on its own cannot face the pandemic,” he said.
