Tanudan, Kalinga — Brothers in Upper Lubo who were allegedly involved in a murder case in 2010 surrendered to the authorities.

In a report by the Kalinga Police Provincial Office, they said the two suspects identified as Segundo Lingbawan, 55 and Christopher Lingbawan, 32 were allegedly involved in the shooting of an individual on August 29, 2010 which stemmed from a clan war.

Additionally, the two are the only remaining suspects of the murder who are still alive. They are listed as number 7 and 8 top most wanted persons in Kalinga and have a warrant of arrest issued in 2011 with no bail recommended.

The brothers peacefully surrendered after a negotiation done by the Upper Lubo barangay officials and Philippine National Police – Kalinga. They were brought to Tanudan Municipal Police Station for documentation and debriefing before they are turned over to the court.

Meanwhile, Tanudan Mayor Jaedicke Dagadag narrated in an interview that the negotiators or elders have been trying to work out the case and that even after the arrest, he said, they will still pursue the traditional settlement as to officially close the dispute between the suspect and victim’s clan and so that it will not be passed to the next generation, “haan nga mamana mana diay [conflict], maputed kuman idiayen.”

“Ituloy mi tu latta diay tungtungan habang on going diay [case] da ta dayta ket nagbibinnales da eh,” he said.

He added that in instances like this, the traditional way of settling the conflict is through marriage from the people of the two clans, “nu adda ag aasawa kuma tapno maikkat ngay, maerase diyay, kasdiay gamin ti ugali mi.”

“Ngem usto metlang nu nagsurrender da tapno lumammiis met diay ulon dagitoy biktima - ta baring adda metlang ti pagtutungtungan tu latta,” Dagadag said.
