Tinglayan, Kalinga – Municipal Mayor Sacrament Gumilab committed to the families of the 5 individuals recruited by the Communist Party of the Philippines – New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) this November that the Tinglayan LGU is going to return them to their families who are pleading for them to come back.

“Nadagsen iti rikna ti LGU Tinglayan ken kapulisan nga adda narecruit nga kailyan tayo ijay Basao,” Gumilab expressed.

He added that the parents and relatives were not aware that their children have been recruited by the CPP-NPA, “haan da pulos ammo nga kasjay ti nangyari ijay an annak da. Ket kayat da nga agsubli kuma dagiay annak da.”

Two of the five are even the breadwinners of the family since they no longer have their fathers.

“Jay duwa nga parents ket balo da ngay ket iti pagasa da lang kanu nga sumuporta ijay pamilya da ket jay duwa nga annak da nga lallaki nga sinmurot iti leftist. Ket agpapakaasi da piman, agsangit da pay nga nu mabalin agsubli dagiay an annak da,” Gumilab narrated.

Initial Action

During the LGU’s meeting with the parents, police, elders, and barangay officials of Basao, they decided that their initial action will be for Barangay Basao officials and ‘umili’ to look for the five.

“Amin nga support, tumulong iti LGU tapnu mapasubli tayo dagitoy nga ububbing,” he added.

Gumilab further said that Barangay Basao shall send a strong message that the left-leaning groups are not welcome, especially that they are already declared Persona Non Grata in Tinglayan.

“Haan tayo itulok nga maulit manen iti kastoy nga sumsumrek da iti ili tayo nga palimed. Nu adda makita tayo, dakayo nga umili adda maamwan yu, ireport yu nga dagus, paawiden tayo isuda,” he added.

To the youth: “Don’t be misguided”

Mayor Gumilab is calling to the youth to be careful and not be swayed by the words of those who persuade them to fight against the government or those who tell them that armed rebellion is the only way to make a better government.

“Haan da nga agpaalilaw iti nasasam it nga sao dagitoy. Awan iti pagmamaayan iti biyag mo nu sumrek ka ditoy [organization]. Remember you’ll be hunted by the government, aglimme limmeng kan tu, haan mun to makitkita iti pamilyam,” he said.

Gumilab added that if their purpose of joining the left-leaning groups is to go against the government, “uray anya aramiden da haan da nga mapabagsak iti government ta napigsa iti government tatta, napintas met iti araramiden na, adda support iti umili iti government karkaru ditoy Tinglayan.”

He said that the government may have lacking sometimes due to shortage of funds, but they are doing their best to give what is due for the people.

Moreover, as to the parents, Gumilab appeals to them to guide their children and open their eyes about the negative effects of joining the movement. He added that they should not neglect and immediately intervene once their children show any sign of joining the organization.

“Ta ammu yu dinggen latta ti ubbing iti nanang ken tatang da,” he said.

However, if the children refuse to listen, the parents should seek the help of the barangay officials, leaders, and concerned agencies, he said.
