Tinglayan, Kalinga – Mayor Sacrament Gumilab is urging all the health workers in this municipality to get vaccinated after only 18 out of the 221 listed health workers agreed to be vaccinated.

During the information education campaign meeting on Monday, April 5, 2021, Gumilab encouraged the health workers not to fear since they need the vaccination for their personal protection as well as their family especially that they are in the frontline, taking the risk and sacrificing themselves just to help the Ytinglayans during this pandemic.

"This is just my presumption but I believe that the government will not permit something that could bring harm to its own citizens,” Gumilab said.

To further support his stand on the matter, Gumilab cited the experience of a companion who had been vaccinated, which according to him, did not experience any adverse effect and is doing quite well.

However, Gumilab said they will stick to the decision of the health personnel if they are to be vaccinated or not, as this is not mandatory saying, “Yet even if I say that it is safe to be vaccinated, the decision is still in yours.”

During the meeting, Dr. Remegio Basilan of the Department of Health-Kalinga said that though getting the jab depends on the decision of health workers, they should still consider getting it to protect themselves from the Covid-19.

As recalled, the national government has prioritized frontliners which include health personnel among those individuals to get the vaccine first.
