Apayao candidate joins Miss Universe PH Top 40

Updated: Mar 4, 2023

Apayao, Philippines – A mental health and environmental advocate from Conner, Apayao province will be competing with the 39 other contenders for a chance to win the Miss Universe Philippines’ “La Mer en Majeste” crown or the two new prestigious crowns earlier teased by the national pageant organization.

Kristeen Mae Boccang made it to the official Top 40 candidates following the voluntary withdrawal of Pangasinan representative Evangeline Fuentes due to health reasons. The 23-year-old beauty represented Conner town during the “Dayag Di Apayao” where she was hailed as second runner-up and was awarded Miss Flawless.

The now representative of Apayao expressed she felt sad over Fuentes’ withdrawal as she know “how hard it is to enter Top 40.”

“I've been through the screening and we all girls need to prepare talaga… To Miss Evangeline Fuentes, I wish you fast recovery po. I am praying for you,” she said.

The beauty shared she was overwhelmed upon receiving a call from MUPh informing her of the good news that she immediately called her handler.

Miss Universe Philippines over Miss Philippines Earth

Boccang likewise tried her shot on Miss Philippines Earth to promote environmental conversation through their traditional “Lapat” system.

When asked as to which national pageant will she be pursuing, she answered that while Miss PH Earth is a great platform for environmental protection, she wants to follow what she started – MUPh.

The Apayao beauty is in Manila and will be travelling back to Apayao this evening. Her team is planning their next steps based on the schedules given.

She has nothing but gratitude for all her followers and supporters who have been with her all along.

“You are all truly amazing. You give me strength and hope. I may not be able to thank you individually, but please know that my heart is so delighted. Thank you everyone for being with me every step of the way. I appreciate you all sending me love and greetings. We can do this! I love you all. Magyamyaman na' adaayu nga awan panda na, iya ayat se supporta nga nepaay nu iya'!” Boccang entended.

The MUPh official candidate earned a psychology degree at Saint Louis University in the country’s Summer Capital.
