Tinglayan, Kalinga – To ensure enough blood supply in the community blood bank for medical and emergencies needs, the Local Government of Tinglayan through the Municipal Health Office (MHO) conducted a blood-letting activity alongside the barangay health board meeting at Butbut Proper on Thursday, June 10, 2021.

The blood-letting activity, which is done annually, targets the collection of blood from one percent of the total population of each barangay in Tinglayan.

Tinglayan has a total of 20 barangays with a total population of 13, 654 based on MHO’s data.

In Butbut Proper, 18 out of its 650 populace donated 500 cc blood each during the activity in which majority of them were first time blood donors.

In a statement, Municipal Health Officer Dr. Aite Caren Liw-agan underscored the importance of donating blood to save the life of another person even without giving financial help.

“Most of the time, we can't afford to provide financial support to those in need, however, in simple ways like donating blood, we can help save the life of another,” she said.

She further encouraged yTongrayans to participate in the annual event as a contribution to the community blood bank to ensure the town will have enough supply to help individuals in dire need particularly in times of emergencies.

Councilor Bartholome Aboli, in a separate statement, said the activity is vital as yTongrayans will no longer have to worry looking for blood when needed, since they can already avail from the community blood bank.

"Many emergencies, we have encountered, have difficulties in looking for blood bag due to lack of supply in our community blood bank. Instead of using time to save the person, it is wasted on looking for blood supply. This can cause a person to die," he said.

The activity shall continue at Barangay Poblacion, Tinglayan this month.
