Mt. Province, Philippines—With the opening of a new public transportation route for modernized public utility jeepneys (PUJs) in Mountain Province, safe and convenient travel is now experienced by public commuters of Bontoc to Bauko route and vice versa.

Launching of the 15 modernized PUJ Class 3 units owned by the Bontoc Abatan Bauko Transport Service Cooperative (BABTSC) to ply the route Bontoc-Abatan, Bauko and vice versa with route structure Bontoc- Dantay-Alab-Balili-Gonogon-Nacagang, Sabangan- Supang-Otucan-Poblacion-Abatan, Bauko, and vice versa was made on July 9, 2021.

OIC-Regional Director Lalaine E. Sobremonte, during the launching, applauded the cooperative for their support to the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP), a pursuit launched in 2017 which aims to provide comfortable, accessible, reliable, environment-friendly, and sustainable public transportation for every Filipino.

Sobremonte likewise commended the province for being second in the region in terms of the number of modernized units traversing the roads next to Baguio City.

With the said development, the regional director urged provincial officials to fast-track their Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRPs).

In a virtual message from LTFRB Chairman Martin B. Delgra III, he underscored that without the efforts of the LGUs involved, the lending bank, the supplier, and partner agencies, the PUVMP could have not succeeded in its implementation in the province.

Meanwhile, Congressman Maximo Dalog Jr., during his message, regarded the cooperative and PUJ drivers as public servants, while expressing support to modernized PUVs traversing the province’s roads for the comfort and safety of commuters.

Also present during the launching were Governor Bonifacio Lacwasan, Jr, the PUVMP Team, Mayor Franklin Odsey of Bontoc, Mayor Marcial Lawilao of Sabangan, Mayor Abraham Akilit of Bauko, OTC representative Ms. Myla Bayas, Regional Director Atty. Franco Bawang Jr. of CDA-CAR, LTO-Bontoc OIC Chief, Jaqueline Joven and Hyundai Baguio representative Archimedes Go.
