Mom in Balbalan asks help for medication of daughter suffering from multiple disease

If only a mom could take the suffering of her kids, she would.

This is the exact sentiment of a mother, Benita Lasi of Sitio Sadsadan, Balbalan Proper after her 2-year-old daughter, Khaye, was diagnosed with Urinary Tract Infection (UTI), Focal Epilepsy, and Hydranencephaly.

Hydranencephaly is a rare condition where the brain’s cerebral hemispheres are missing and replaced by sacs filled with cerebrospinal fluid which often causes increased pressure in the head.

Stated with frequent fever

Benita recounted to GURU Press Cordillera that Khaye’s case started with frequent fever when she was only 3 months old and when she was 6 months, she was brought to a neurologist as she often loses consciousness and experiences seizures.

At 1 year and 6 months old, Khaye was diagnosed with said diseases. However, due to financial constraints, the now 2-year-old toddler was not able to get the immediate medical treatment she needs.

Now that she’s 2, Benita relayed that Khaye had to be subjected to surgery at the soonest possible time. She was referred to have the operation at Baguio General Hospital.

No resources

As much as she wants to bring her toddler immediately to said hospital, they do not have the resources.

“Ti sitwasyon ni baby tatta ket adda latta ti oras nga maawanan puot. Sunga itultuloy mi latta ti inreseta ti doctor na nga agas pagur-urayan mi ipapan mi BGH,” she said.

Benita and her husband’s main source of income is farming. This, she said, is not enough which is why they also do labor work in order to sustain their daily expenses.

With Khaye’s condition, Benita admitted she doesn’t know what to do already and where to get P200,000 for her daughter’s surgery. Their limited financial resources have already been exhausted with the toddler’s medicines and past hospitalizations.
