Tabuk City, Kalinga – PNP-Kalinga says citizens have turned over more loose firearms this December 10 and 11 to the authorities heeding the call of the police to avoid possessing unlicensed guns as well as helping reduce gun-related violence and unwanted events involving guns.

Gun-related crimes are still alarming in the province with some cases of loose gun owners involved in indiscriminate firing when drunk.

According to the report of Kalinga Police Provincial Office, three .38 Caliber pistol, 10 live ammunitions, and an improvised 12 gauge shotgun were separately surrendered by some gun owners to Tabuk City Police Station, Lubuagan MPS, Pasil MPS and Pinukpuk MPS.

The unlicensed firearms and ammunitions are now under the custody of Kalinga Provincial Crime Laboratory Office for its proper accounting and storage.

In his statement, Kalinga Police Provincial Director PCol. Davy Vicente Limmong said that the surrender of said firearms shows the people’s willingness to cooperate on the campaign against unlicensed guns.

He further urged other holders to surrender theirs and to adhere to Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition.

Meanwhile, according to Police Regional Office Cordillera, 633 firearms were confiscated while 52 cases were referred in the region this year.

In Kalinga, on the other hand, from January to November 28 this year, 21 loose firearms were confiscated, 5 were recovered, and 43 unlicensed guns were voluntarily surrendered by the citizens.
