Bontoc, Mt. Province - Young Muay Thai fighters from Mountain Province, representing the D’Phenomenons Combat Team, dominated the recently concluded Luzon League Regional Muay Thai championships.

Held from June 4-7, 2025, in San Pablo, Laguna, the Luzon League served as a qualifying round for the upcoming nationals, where champions from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao will face off for national titles.

During the event, the D’Phenomenons Combat Team (a sports team in Bontoc) clinched two gold and two silver medals, securing their spot in the upcoming National Muay Thai Championship.

Among the team’s Muay Thai fighters who excelled during the said regional combat sporting event was Jason Bryan Lacwasan, whose decisive performance over his opponent from Ilocos Norte earned him a gold medal.

Jordan Ace Fagyan and Burnel Diohen similarly put up impressive fights, winning their semifinal matches before narrowly losing on points in the final round. The two bagged silver medals and also qualified for the nationals.

Meantime, Gerald Diohen advanced directly to the national level after winning by default in his weight division. Another member of the team who also showcased strong striking skills was Marwin Ronquillo, who placed 5th among the 11 fighters in his category.

Fighters Jaxen Alfred Sagsakho, Keyl Pachingel Martin, and Jabar Usman Alawi likewise showed commendable efforts but fell short of the elimination round.

The team is now preparing to compete not only in the National Muay Thai Championship but also in the National Kickboxing Championship after some of its athletes secured three gold and one silver medals in the Luzon Regional Kickboxing Tournament held last April in Tabuk City, Kalinga.
