Tabuk City, Kalinga – “There are no greater heroes but those who teach with all their might and with all their soul for the sake of a better tomorrow,” emphasized Governor Ferdinand Tubban during the Tabuk City Schools Division Office (SDO) 7th Founding Anniversary as he recalled the journey of the office from inception.

Tubban was one of the key figures who worked hand in hand with other officials and government servants when he was yet Mayor of Tabuk City to realize the dream of having a Division Office for the progressing City.

In his message during the culminating activity this July 9, the governor recognized the role of those in the education sector, saying the kind of job they have is challenging for it requires sacrifice, love of teaching, and preparation for the children’s future.

With this, he stressed that there are no greater heroes but those who teach with all their might and soul for without teachers, there would be no progress nor development in the community.

“Without teachers, our community would not progress nor develop, because before there were engineers, lawyers, doctors or any other professions, there were teachers who guided them,” Tubban said while lauding the contributions of the teachers.

Tubban highlighted that the Schools Division Office has an indispensable job as the main molder of future diligent, honest, committed, dedicated and God-fearing Tabukenos and that they will not fail if they remember their ‘sacred duty and perform it with all their might and soul’.

As a molder, Tubban reminded the teachers that the kind of students they produce is the kind of molders they are for if they planted a banana they should not expect to harvest mangoes.

The establishment of Tabuk City SDO

Governor Tubban recalled the various challenges the people behind the establishment of Tabuk City Schools Division Office had faced since its inception in 2012.

He said that in 2013, during his term as the City Mayor of Tabuk, the then Regional Director Ellen Donato has been calling him multiple times to pursue the establishment of the Schools Division Office in Tabuk.

Tubban admitted that at that time, he was skeptical, asking himself if it is possible to have the said division office. But he thanked Director Donato for her encouragement and for constantly reminding and pushing him until the signing of Memorandum of Agreement happened in 2013 with RD Donato, Kalinga SDS Marie Carolyn Verano who was sent by Education Secretary Armin Luistro.

After the signing of MOA, the old town hall was renovated to be the temporary office of the Tabuk City SDO prior to the construction of their permanent building in Bulanao.

Additionally, in 2014, another Memorandum of Agreement was signed to lay the final required preparatory activities for the formal opening of the Schools Division. This, he said, is through the help of Board Member Tony Bakilan who was then a city councilor and RD Donato and Secretary Luistro.

“You see, the creation of Tabuk City Schools Division Office is laden with challenges, but because of the labor of love of the people who wanted to make it happen, the dream to have a schools division for Tabuk City eventually came true at noon of June 24, 2014. The Schools Division was officially born that day although its operation started in July,” he said.

In his concluding message, Tubban gave a snappy salute to the teachers and personnel of the DepEd Tabuk for a job well done.
