Tabuk City, Kalinga – People in Kalinga are observed to be compliant with the gun ban policy of the Commission on Elections, as no violators have been arrested as of January 31. This is according to the Kalinga Police Provincial Office.

“So far wala pang nahuhuli, ang ibig sabihin niyan, nakakasunod yung mga pumapasok sa Kalinga Province at mga taga Kalinga sa policy ng gun ban,” says Kalinga Acting Police Provincial Director, Police Colonel Peter Tagtag Jr.

Tagtag added that motorists in the province have been compliant at checkpoints, as there are no reports of resistance when they pass through the established COMELEC checkpoints.

The Acting Police Provincial Director appealed to the public to continuously adhere to the election gun bun and subject their vehicle for plain view inspection at COMELEC checkpoints in order to sustain a peaceful and orderly election period in the province.

“Sa mga kababayan natin na taga Kalinga at saka ‘yung mga pumapasok dito … sumunod lang tayo [sa gun ban], wala namang mawawala sa atin kung sumunod tayo para ‘yung election natin ay maging orderly and peaceful… and we are praying na wala sanang violence na mangyayari,” Tagtag conveyed.

Implementation of gun ban policy for the election period commenced last January 9 wherein a total of 21 COMELEC checkpoints were established in Kalinga.

According to the Philippine National Police, as of January 21, a total of 242 individuals had been arrested for violating the election gun ban in the country.
