Tabuk City, Kalinga – The police force in Kalinga has identified the two suspects behind the killing of two men in Hilltop, Bulanao, Tabuk City—one of whom has already been arrested, according to Kalinga Police Officer-in-Charge, PCol. Gilbert Fati-ig.

Fati-ig gave the update during the 4th Quarter Kalinga Provincial Peace and Order Council meeting on November 17. He discussed two separate incidents that occurred recently in Tabuk City, the latest being the early morning shooting of two men on November 15 in Purok 6, Bulanao.

The incident was initially believed to be a robbery, in which two unidentified men on a motorcycle reportedly shot two victims after they failed to surrender their valuables. One of the victims was shot in the face, while the other was hit in the chest, resulting in their immediate death.

However, according to Fati-ig, further investigation revealed that those involved are members of a group linked to illegal drugs and that the shooting was triggered by a dispute over the remittance of money.

“Itong shooting incident, ito ay isang grupo—grupo sila—drug personalities ang mga ito. So, dahil nga sa nabanggit ni DPDO, hindi sila nagkaayos o kulang yung remittance nung isang kasama nila, so ganun yung nangyari,” he explained.

Through the efforts of investigators and intelligence operatives, the suspects were identified, and one of them was tracked down and arrested. The other suspect, he said, is currently hiding in a certain barangay.

“Yung dalawang suspects are identified and, for the information of the body, na-file na po, nai-refer na po sa fiscal office itong case na ito, itong shooting incident. Yung isa nahuli na, and then yung isa, identified na, nagtatago sa isang barangay,” he said, adding that they need the help of elders and the suspect’s relatives to facilitate his surrender.

In the meantime, the Kalinga police OIC assured the public that authorities in the province are doing their best to keep Kalinga a safe place to live in and do business.
