Tinglayan, Kalinga – More than a hundred households in Dananao, Tinglayan are now benefiting from the waterworks system project recently implemented in the community through the ‘LAWA at BINHI’ Program of the government.

The LAWA (Local Adaptation to Water Access) at BINHI (Breaking Insufficiency through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished) is a water and food security program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development which used ‘nature-based’ solutions to address climate change, food insecurity, and water scarcity.

According to DSWD Cordillera, 60 partner beneficiaries from Dananao implemented the waterworks system on October 15. The construction materials were provided by the Provincial Local Government Unit of Kalinga.

The system now serves as the primary source of water for at least 130 households in the barangay, the DWSD Cordillera added.

Meantime, just late August this 2025, the TUPAD LAWA at BINHI program between DSWD and the DOLE Kalinga benefitted 800 residents in Kalinga as it provided them with employment and livelihood support as they implement their respective projects.

Mayor Charles Abay said he is grateful for the aid from the provincial government and is glad to see developments happening in his municipality.

The mayor added that the local government unit is working hard to source out funds for more projects that can uplift the living conditions of communities in Tinglayan, especially in remote areas.
