Over 34,000 kids vaccinated against measles, polio in Kalinga

Tabuk City, Kalinga – A total of 34,322 children under 5 years old were inoculated against measles-rubella and polio during the month-long vaccination drive in the country.

The nationwide supplemental immunization dubbed as "Chikiting Ligtas 2023" was implemented by the provincial local government headed by Governor James Edduba in the province from May 01 to 31.


Said campaign ran for a month to vaccinate children ages 0 – 59 months against contagious and life-threatening diseases like measles, rubella, and polio.


Kalinga Provincial Information Office(PIO) disclosed that the province achieved an 86.63% vaccination rate for measles and rubella. This is equivalent to 17, 120 kids.

As for the Bivalent Oral Polio vaccine, the province vaccinated 74.34% of the target population, or 17,202 children.


According to the Department of Health, more than 7.54 million kids in the Philippines had already received the vaccine against measles and rubella as of May 30. This is 78% of the target population.


The agency further revealed that around 2.19 million children had been inoculated against polio during the month-long vaccination drive.
