Over P300M tax collected in Kalinga from January to April

Updated: May 22, 2022

Tabuk City, Kalinga – The Bureau of Internal Revenue Kalinga-Apayao collected a total amount of P301, 129, 266 from January to April this year.

This is 31.9 percent higher compared to the tax collection during the first quarter last year, according to an official of BIR-Kalinga Apayao.

“Mas malaki talaga ang itinaas sir, may 31.9 percent na itinaas ang koleksiyon so that is good for us, mas marami ng active na business,” said Assistant Revenue District Officer Cherry Ann Dulawan in an interview with PTV Cordillera.

In January, the agency obtained a total amount of P102, 556,654, P48, 850, 663 in February, P54, 169, 992 in March and P37, 117, 893 last April.

The collected tax, Dulawan said is expected to increase this month as the election period concluded given that the primary source of taxes collected are from contracts and government projects aside from the withholding tax in the wages of government employees.

“After the election, aarangkada na ang mga contracts, projects pati na yung mga release ng pondo so yun yung maging source ng witholding taxes so lalaki [ang makocollect na tax],” Dulawan said.

Aside from these, one contributory factor which helped in the higher outcome of collected taxes, she added is the increase of top withholding agents in the private sector.

As disclosed by BIR Kalinga-Apayao, Tabuk City has the highest contribution in the tax collected and between Kalinga and Apayao, Kalinga contributes more.

For Apayao, the highest amount collected came from the municipalities of Santa Marcela and Flora.
