Amulung, Cagayan―The one-kilometer Amulung Bridge amounting to PhP1.2 billion that will connect the eastern and western part of this town is now being constructed.

The Amulung Information Management reports that the bridge is funded from the National Government’s Build Build Build program through the initiative of 3rd District Congressman Jojo Lasam Lara together with Mayor Elpidio Reyes Rendon.

Having witnessed the difficulties and struggles of Amulung residents taking daily boat rides especially during the rainy season, Congressman Jojo Lasam Lara endeavored for the bridge to be funded to ensure the safety and convenience of locals.

The representative said that of the whole budget, P345 million worth of initial funds was already released to jumpstart the construction.

The ground breaking of the bridge was in January but due to the pandemic, its construction was delayed. Said construction is expected to be completed within three to four years.

At present, Abolo Punong Barangay Grace Abel-Reyes said that they are using boats to transport their products to the market places and to bring goods to their community which is very dangerous especially during rainy seasons when the Cagayan River often swells.

With the construction in place, the long overdue dream of the people to have a safer road access with a concrete and stable bridge will soon become a reality especially for the residents of Amulung and neighboring municipalities.
