P2.5 M equipment, Mung beans Sprouting Facility awarded to Isabela coop

Cabatuan, Isabela - The Department of Agriculture (DA) -Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR) awarded a Mung bean Sprouting Facility with P2.5 million processing equipment’s to the Farmers Land Owners and Workers (FLOW) of Pariir Agriculture Cooperative in Cabatuan under the High-Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP).


Dubbed as ‘Enhancement and Commercialization of Mung bean-based Food Products in Cagayan Valley,’ the project’s groundbreaking ceremony was held on August 06, 2021, at Sitio Pariir, Saranay, Cabatuan, Isabela.


This is in support to the different Research for Development (R4D) Interventions in Cagayan Valley thru the DA-Cagayan Valley Research Center (CVRC) that will help the cooperative in their fresh mung bean sprout business enterprise in addition to the Mung Bean Food Product line and to supplement the continuously flourishing mung bean industry of the municipality.

Regional Technical Director for Research & Regulatory, Rose Mary G. Aquino, in a message, said that the developed products including the newly introduced “Fresh Mung bean Sprout” are all products of research for development. She said that the cooperatives are the instruments to help mung bean farmers prosper in said municipality. She then challenged the cooperative to improve their products using the new equipment, underscoring that for an enterprise to be successful, product quality must be assured and sustainable.


To ensure product quality, the FLOW of Pariir has acquired the License to Operate from the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) through collaboration with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). The cooperative is also the partner-cooperator of the DA-BAR.

Meanwhile, training on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) for Mung bean Production for the farmer-members of the cooperative will be conducted to ensure that the acceptable maximum residue level (MRL) and food safety of mung bean raw materials are maintained.


DA-CVRC Researchers will continually assist the cooperative in the further improvement of the Processing Technology of the Mung Bean Products and Marketing Linkage to the different prospective clients.


The Regional Technical Director for Research & Regulatory, Rose Mary G. Aquino, Ms. Remz Mariano Arce of the Office of the Representative for the 3rd District of Isabela, Local Government Unit (LGU) Officials of the municipality with the members & officials of FLOW of Pariir Agriculture Cooperative attended said event.
