P5.7M marijuana seized in abandoned vehicle in Pasil, Kalinga

Pasil, Kalinga – Kalinga police seized P5.7 million worth of marijuana in an abandoned vehicle along the national road in Saladao, Cagaluan, Pasil on November 30, 2022.


Prior to the confiscations of said contraband, the authorities set up a police checkpoint in Sitio Chilakan, Dangoy, on said date after being notified that a white vehicle ferrying marijuana is set to pass through the area.


After a while, a white vehicle driven by an unknown driver was seen speeding while passing through the area, but when police tried to stop him, he did not heed the instruction but continued speeding his vehicle.

A hot pursuit operation was then conducted which resulted in the discovery of the abandoned vehicle along the national road. The vehicle is said to have been abandoned by its driver after being chased by operatives.


Inside the vehicle, 10 pieces of dried marijuana bricks with an estimated weight of 10,000 grams, 3 pieces of tubular marijuana dried leaves and stalks wrapped in transparent plastic with an estimated weight of 3,000 grams, and 18 pieces of medium rectangular shaped, containing marijuana dried leaves and stalks with an estimated weight of 35,000 grams were found.


Kalinga police said the seized contrabands have a total weight of 48,000 grams and an estimated value is about P5,760,000.00.

“Other recovered items were one (1) yellow plastic bag containing Official Receipt/Certificate of Registration leased under a female name with an address at Makati City and one white Toyota Rush with plate number NFV 9982,” Kalinga police reported.


As part of the process, inventory was made as witnessed by DOJ and media representatives, and a barangay official of Cagaluan.


Further, authorities launched a follow-up operation on Thursday, December 1, resulting in the arrest of the suspect believed to be the driver of said vehicle.


The suspect whose name is withheld by police is a resident of Pakak, Agbannawag, Tabuk City, Kalinga.
