Tabuk City, Kalinga – A total of P60,086,809.05 worth of illegal drugs confiscated from various anti-illegal drug operations in the Cordillera were destroyed this December 4 at Holcim Philippines, Inc. in La Union through a thermal decomposition.

According to Philippine National Police – Cordillera, the incinerated illegal drug evidence include 1,498.0747 grams of Methamphetamine hydrochloride; 37.4 milliliters of liquid Methamphetamine; 415,832.5102 grams of Marijuana; and 52 pieces Marijuana plants.

All of these were confiscated from 244 cases wherein 45 people were convicted, 118 pleaded guilty, 68 were acquitted, and 6 cases are still on trial.

Cordillera Police Regional Director PBGen. R’win Pagkalinawan hopes the event will assure the public that the government is united to keep the people safe from these illegal drugs.

“With the destruction of these illegal drugs, I hope these will send a message of reassurance to our community, that we in the government are banded together to make you safe from illegal drugs,” he said.

Meanwhile, a total of P7,510,840,985.32 worth of seized narcotics in the Philippines were destroyed at the Integrated Waste Management Inc. in Cavite on December 3.

The incineration of these illegal drug evidence is in consonance with President Rodrigo Duterte’s order in October and in compliance with the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 which requires destruction of siezed drugs within 24 hours after court’s inspection.
