P91.8M improved Besao-Nacawang, Tadian-Mabalite FMR inaugurated

Updated: Feb 11, 2023

Mt. Province, Philippines – Some 2,660 households or around 18,357 individuals from the various towns of Besao and Tadian, Mt. Province, including the municipality of Quirino in Ilocos Sur, are now enjoying the improved 4.154-kilometer road stretch that was inaugurated and turned over Wednesday, Feb. 08, 2023.

The P91.867 million worth improvement of Besao-Nacawang (Segment 2) and Tadian-Mabalite Farm-to-Market Road started sometime in 2014 and was completed on Dec. 19 last year, informed Provincial Engineer Edward Likigan during the ceremony. He said the project is the “longest” FMR in the region due to its completion period.

Implemented by Mt. Province government, the recent road development is under the Philippine Rural Development Project of the Department of Agriculture.

Governor Bonifacio Lacwasan Jr. who led the event thanked the agency for their services, saying the new road is of great help to the locals, especially the farmers.

“I thank all the stakeholders and all those who worked on the project. The road was improved for we all exerted efforts,” said the solon in their dialect.

Regional Executive Director of DA-CAR, Cameron P. Odsey, meantime, underscored the benefits of the completed project such as easier and faster transportation and delivery of agricultural products to marketplaces, therefore avoiding wastage of farm produce including heirloom rice, cabbage, tomatoes, bell peppers, coffee, and fruits.

The cooperation observed among those involved as well as the local officials earned recognition from the regional director.

“The good practice of politicians in the province, their ability to set aside differences and instead work together for the implementation of projects, is one of the driving factors towards the successful implementation of projects,” expressed Odsey.

With less travel time and expenses brought about by the enhanced road conditions, the farmer-beneficiaries are now contemplating product and plantation expansion.
