Tanudan, Kalinga — The P96 million worth Tanudan Bridge that connects the Upper Tanudan barangays to the center and as an alternate route to Banaue has been inaugurated on November 17.

The bridge located along the Tabuk – Banaue road via Tanudan – Barlig road was also blessed during the event.

Department of Public Works and Highways Lower Kalinga Officer in Charge, Engineer Ruby Uyam, said that the P96,199,999.13 bridge is expected to reduce travel time and fuel cost for the locals.

Also, it facilitates safer and more convenient travel within Kalinga and neighboring places.

According to Uyam, the project would also significantly improve access to farm-to-market roads and agricultural areas of the locality, which is Tanudan’s main source of revenue.

The all-weather road with the new bridge she said also “promotes tourism and allows rural residents easier access to tourist attraction, schools, and health services.”

Meantime, DPWH CAR regional director Engineer Khadaffy Tanggol expressed he could not imagine how the people in Tanudan before, enduring 2 days of walking just to go to Tabuk because vehicles could not reach their areas yet.

“’Pag galing dito pupunta ng Tabuk, maglalakad sila ng dalawang araw. Hindi ko ma-imagine ‘yung dalawang araw na naglalakad kayo pupunta kayo sa, kung ano man ang sadya niyo doon [Tabuk], imagine 2 days?” he said.

Moreover, Tanggol also appreciated the widened roads in Kalinga, saying this happened because there is no problem with the road right of way. This, he said, indicates good leadership in the province and with no problems with the road right of way, the regional director added it is easier for the DPWH to implement projects.

The funding for the project came from the General Appropriation Act CY 2018.
