Pasil, Kalinga – The municipal local government unit of Pasil under the leadership of Mayor Alfredo “Chao-ig” Malannag Jr. reinforces its fight against climate change and disaster risk reduction as it brings discussions on air.
Through the joint effort of Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office and Municipal Agriculture Office, with the supervision of Mayor Malannag Jr., the ‘School on Air on Climate Change/Disaster Risk Reduction and Organic Agriculture’ was launched on December 20, 2021, at the Evacuation Center in Tucol, Pasil.
According to MDRRM Officer Marlyn Pagutayao, climate change discussions are aired for free via Nutriskwela Community Radio of Radyo Kasalip from 11 a.m. to 12noon every Tuesday and Thursday, starting this January until June 2021.
Pagutayao, in an interview, disclosed that the LGU’s move aims to address climate change and disaster risk reduction that are closely linked by informing the people of necessary disaster prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery.
Providing information to the community, she said, helps not only in saving lives in times of disasters but also in protecting their livelihoods and properties.
The program likewise promotes organic farming and slow food as an effective climate change mitigation. The radio program is also utilized by the 40 enrolled students/participants of the organic farming season-long field school in the municipality.
Mayor Malannag Jr. encouraged the community to cooperate with the programs of the government and do their part in protecting the environment to prevent serious damages.
