PCEDO Kalinga conducts forum for cooperatives' development

Updated: Jan 29, 2022

Tabuk City, Kalinga – The Provincial Cooperative Enterprise and Development Office of Kalinga led by Arlene Oyando conducted a forum earlier today, January 28, to address concerns and improve the performance of the cooperatives in the province.

Various partner agencies attended the event to share and promote government programs, services, and plans that can be availed to assist the cooperatives to improve their management and entrepreneurial activities.

Among the national agencies who made their presentation to the officials and members of the cooperatives are the Office of the Provincial Agricultural Services (OPAS), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

Representatives from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), and Research Department of Kalinga State University also presented their coop-related programs.

According to Oyando, the event was supposed to push through last year but was postponed due to the COVID-19 restrictions imposed in the province.

Such forum, she said, serves as an avenue for the cooperatives to be well informed of the various programs that they could take advantage of, and at the same time share their best practices that may be adopted by others to improve their management.

Gracing the event, Governor Ferdinand Tubban stressed the vital role of the cooperatives in the progress of the community, as he encouraged the members not to give up, but rather unite in times of difficulties.

Tubban related how the now billionaire Tabuk Multipurpose Cooperative (TAMPCO) surmounted the trials until it became the biggest cooperative in the province.

“The road to success may not always be smooth ngem kayang-kaya dayta a maresolba nu iyaramid tayo ti kooperasyon ken panagkaykaysa. Saan kayo a madanagan ta sisusuporta latta ti gobyerno iti programa iti tunggal kooperatiba ket sumabat kayo met kuma,” said the governor.

Chairman of Committee on Cooperative Lester Lee Tarnate likewise extended his support to the cooperatives in all the municipalities and the city in the province.
