PDRRMC Kalinga reports utilization of P41M 2020 DRRM programs

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Carrying the responsibility as the forefront agency during calamities, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) spent a total of P41, 120, 000 from its budget last year for disaster-reduction programs and projects.


In a report, the Provincial Information Office bares that an amount of P25, 600, 000 was allotted for infrastructure projects needed for disaster prevention and mitigation, while P15, 520, 000 was spent for relief operations on areas severely affected by calamities and those affected by the lockdowns due to Covid-19.

Other projects cited include the construction of drainage canals in Babalag East, Rizal and Laya East, Tabuk City; river rechanneling at Sucbot, Pinukpuk and Cabaruan, Tabuk City; and flood control at Magaogao, Pinukpuk.


“The Emergency Operations Center, which was the central command in the province of Kalinga for emergency preparedness and management, was activated during the onslaught of Typhoons Ambo, Pepito, Rolly, Siony, and Ulysses in 2020,” the PIO reports.



During the occurrence of Typhoon Ulysses, PDRRMC Kalinga also sent help to the provinces of Cagayan and Isabela through rescue and relief operations.


Also, financial assistance was provided by the agency to the Local Government Unit of Talisay, Batangas during the eruption of the Taal Volcano, January last year.

The council also handed P 300,000 financial assistance to yKalinga students stranded in the Summer Capital during the nationwide lockdown in April 2020.


Meanwhile, to continue their disaster preparedness and response pursuit, PDRRMC Kalinga has also participated in the Nationwide Simulation Earthquake Drills (NSED), Online Emergency Operation Center (EOC) and Incident Command System (ICS) Executive Courses Training, and conducted Basic and Advance Life Support Training in 2020.
