Baguio City, Philippines―Philippine Military Academy (PMA) is under hard lockdown after over 50 cadets and food handlers at the military campus have tested positive for COVID-19.

Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) spokesman Major Gen. Edgard Arevalo said that they are doubling their efforts as the food handlers were the ones who brought the virus and broke the academy's COVID-19 bubble based on their investigation.

Earlier, in an official statement of PMA through Public Information Officer Major Cherryl Tindog, she said that for the first time the academy conducted a mass RT-PCR testing to really detect presence of COVID19 as part of the expanded testing/detection effort of the LGU/IATF.

“Aside from the tests, as per the PMA's safety and health protocol for COVID19 and that of DOH, the Academy has conducted immediate isolation of positive cases, lockdown, contact tracing, quarantine of general contacts, and disinfection of affected areas,” she said.

Furthermore, Major General Edgard Arevalo said all more than 50 infected cadets, military personnel, and civilian human resource inside the PMA are asymptomatic and have been placed under isolation.

Four have already recovered.

Meantime, Arevalo assured that the infected individuals are being taken care of to ensure their full recovery before they are allowed to go back to the PMA bubble.

Currently, no visitors are allowed to enter the campus to stop and prevent the possible spread of the virus.
