PMA welcomes 356 new cadets

Baguio, City, Philippines – The Philippine Military Academy (PMA) this Saturday, April 30, 2022 welcomed the new 356 cadets with the ceremonial handshake of acceptance with their upperclassmen during the traditional recognition rites.

Of the total cadets of “SIKLAB-KAYA” (Sundalong Ibinigkas ng Katungkulan na Lakas ng Amang Bansang Malaya) Class of 2025, 285 are males and 71 are females.

The recognition rites of the cadets, the academy said, marks their acceptance to the Cadet Corps Armed Forces of the Philippines (CCAFP) and the bestowing of bigger roles and responsibilities as future military officers.

“This day also hallmarks the courage and determination of all 356 fourth-class cadets, as future members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP),” it added.

The handshake with the upperclassmen is an acknowledgment of their growth from a plebe that is still adjusting to the very structured military life, to capable and full-pledge members of the CCAFP.

“The Recognition Rites is a pivotal moment in the plebes’ life done with a simple handshake and the plebe addressing his upperclassmen’s rank and last name. A symbol of how the gap between the upperclassmen and the plebes is bridged after being recognized as official members of the Corps of Cadets,” explained PMA.

Before their recognition, the PMA Class of 2025 took their oath on June 14, 2021 and had their Incorporation Rites on July 24, 2021.
