Police say no foul play involved on death of woman found in Cagayan rice field


Amulung, Cagayan After an elderly woman was found lifeless in a rice paddy in Amulung, police said there was no foul play involved and that she died of natural causes.


A post-mortem examination conducted on the remains of the victim proved the claim, as it turned out the victim named Maria Battung suffered from acute myocardial infarction, or a heart attack.

The post-mortem test made at the town’s rural health unit has been requested after the victim was found lying in a rice field by authorities at Zone 07, Calamagui, Amulung, on Monday, September 4.


Police also disclosed that residents had been observing the victim walking alone during the day and she might had a heart attack while doing said routine on said day.


To recall, a barangay official notified police about the discovery of the victim’s body in the rice field, prompting police to proceed immediately to the area.


It was then that they saw the lifeless body of the victim, who was wearing an orange dress and lying on the rice paddy.


Her identity was known after her older brother claimed the dead body was that of her sister.
