Kalinga highlights 3 decades of progress on DOST 63rd anniversary

Tabuk City, Kalinga―In celebration of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) 63rd Anniversary, the Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC)-Kalinga showcased

30 years of delivering research and development, science, technology, and innovation in the province.


PSTC-Kalinga Head Jasmin Donaal thanked DOST’s partners and stakeholders for their contributions to the successful implementation of programs.

“We join the DOST system in celebrating the 63rd anniversary of DOST where the Provincial Science and Technology Center of Kalinga has been part of 30 years of providing Science For The People in Kalinga, 4 years as part of Kalinga-Apayao and 26 years as PSTC-Kalinga,” she related.


One of the remarkable achievements is the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) that assisted the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with 96 projects amounting to PhP57.90 million from 2002-2020.

Moreover, Local Grants-In-Aid (LGIA) carried out PhP15.52 million worth of 53 projects from 2009-2020 covering all the municipalities.


As for the aid on Disaster Risk Reduction Management, there were 16 units of Hydro met Devices and EWS deployed since 2011 up to 2020. A total of 288 qualifiers from 1994-2020 were covered under the Science and Technology undergraduate examination.


Recently, the PSTC-Kalinga was awarded 2021 Gawad Kagalingan first place in recognition of the ‘innovative alcohol production’ and 2020 selfless spirit award for the remarkable dedication in supporting the front liners amid the CoViD-19 pandemic.


Meanwhile, DOST Secretary Fortunato de la Peña looks back the at the milestone accomplishments of the department in the last 63 years through virtual coffee chat streamed via Facebook today, June 15.


“Of the 63 years I have witnessed the 40 and of course the earlier years, since 1958 as the National Science and Development Board (NSDB) was created was mainly devoted to start the human resource development programs so the NSDB scholarship started which now grew to what we have today,” he expressed.
