Punong barangay candidate in Mt. Province caught with P.3M shabu

Mt. Province, Philippines – A punong barangay aspirant in Mountain Province will be answering two charges after authorities found suspected contraband at his residence on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023.


Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Cordillera reported that operatives implemented a search warrant on said day in Alab, Bontoc.

The agency revealed that the search warrant was addressed to the house of Alex Pilingan Balteo who is running for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections this coming Oct. 30.


Through the operation, authorities found P390,626 worth of suspected shabu, drug paraphernalia, and a caliber 9mm pistol with ammunition.


These prompted operatives to arrest Balteo who is expected to be charged with violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.


On the same day, 10 individuals were arrested by the police in Poblacion, Sadanga after ferrying 16 kilograms of bricks and tubular believed to be marijuana.
