TUMAUINI, Isabela — A man allegedly shouting and causing a disturbance along a national highway was arrested after police spotted a handgun tucked into his waist and later recovered suspected shabu from his pocket, authorities said.

The 30-year-old suspect, identified only as alias Peter, was arrested around 10:30 a.m. on October 14 along the National Highway in Barangay San Mateo, Tumauini, following a report from a concerned citizen.

Police said the suspect appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and continued shouting and causing a disturbance despite officers’ attempts to calm him down.

Responding personnel from the Tumauini Municipal Police Station, together with the Provincial Intelligence Unit of the Isabela Police Provincial Office, noticed a .380-caliber handgun protruding from the suspect’s waist and immediately apprehended him.

Authorities seized the firearm, one magazine, and four rounds of ammunition. The suspect allegedly failed to present documents authorizing him to possess or carry the weapon.

A subsequent search also yielded two heat-sealed sachets containing a substance suspected to be methamphetamine hydrochloride, or shabu, from his pocket.

The suspect faces possible charges related to alarm and scandal, violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and Section 11, Article II of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Police said the seized evidence was marked, inventoried, and photographed at the arrest site in the presence of the suspect and witnesses from the Department of Justice, barangay, and media, in accordance with legal procedures.

Isabela police provincial director PCOL Manuel Bayani Bringas said the incident underscored the importance of promptly responding to public reports, particularly when a disturbance could pose a threat to community safety.

He urged residents to report suspicious activities and cooperate with authorities in maintaining peace and order.

The operation was carried out by the Isabela Police Provincial Office as part of its continuing campaign against illegal drugs, unauthorized firearms, and other criminal activities.
