PWD in Lubuagan rescued in a house wrecked by 30 meter fallen tree

Lubuagan, Kalinga – After hours of strong wind and heavy rain, a “Sebyang” tree lost hold of the ground and fell on to the house of Mildred Pangcao, wrecking it totally while a person with disability was in it.


According to Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Romel Salbang, the incident occurred around 6 in the morning of July 22, 2021, at Sitio Apungur, Upper Uma.

It is believed that the soil became saturated and loose that the tree, with a 30-meter height and 1.7 diameters, was uprooted and fell.


“Gapu ti on and off nga tudo ken due to Storm Fabian siguro, since parts of Lubuagan ket naangin na,” Salbang said.

Salbang related that before the incident, the family evacuated to the residence of Mildred’s father when they felt the weather condition was getting worse.


In moving, an adult member of the family, a Person With Disability, stayed.


Fortunately, he was not hit by the tree and was rescued immediately. No one was injured and no casualties have been reported.

Meanwhile, the Local Government Unit of Lubuagan through its Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office gave food packs which consist of 50 kilos of rice and 100 tin cans of goods to the family.
