Will Face-to-face classes for KSU BS Midwifery push through?

Updated: Jul 23, 2021

Tabuk City, Kalinga – The Kalinga State University is set to conduct a limited face-to-face classes for the Bachelor of Science in Midwifery once it passes the two-day inspection and validation of facilities this July 22 and 23.

In June, CHED reported that 93 higher educational institutions (HEIs) in 14 regions in the country were allowed to conduct limited face-to-face classes. There were six in the Cordillera Administrative Region.

KSU President Eduardo Bagtang, in a message, emphasized the need for medical and allied courses to have limited face-to-face interaction with their teachers amidst the pandemic during the opening program.

This, he said, will allow the learners whose jobs in the future is to save lives to get the necessary skills to perform their duty.

“Ours [in KSU] is the midwifery course where our graduates would be dealing with lives of infants and the mother, so it is necessary for us to also request for the face-to-face interaction between our students and the faculty [for them] to learn the necessary skills,” he added.

Meanwhile, Commission on Higher Education Regional Director and the head of the CHED – DOH Monitoring Team, Dr. Demetrio Anduyan, expressed that the shield and armor for the young ones to face the everyday battles in life is quality education.

“And I am so happy that Kalinga State University is the bastion of truth, the light in the hinterlands by providing quality and relevant education. Kalinga State University will not be alone in this particular endeavor,” he said, adding that the local government units and the CHED are working hand in hand with the university to attain this.

Anduyan said that they are slowly opening doors for the limited face-to-face instruction for they believe that they have to address no matter what the risks are while ensuring that the children will be given the needed training and instruction they deserve.

Under the CHED – DOH Joint Memorandum Circular No. 2021 – 001, selected health-degree programs such as medicine, nursing, medical technology/ medical laboratory science, physical therapy, midwifery, and public health are allowed to have limited face-to-face classes.
