Rape highest recorded crime in Cagayan Valley for 6 months

Cagayan, Philippines – Rape is recorded as the highest index crime incident in the Cagayan Valley region for the first six months of 2021, this is according to the data of the Philippine National Police region 2.

Police Regional Office 2 – Regional Public Information Office reported that of the index crimes, or the crimes committed against a person and property, rape registered the highest number of incidents with 59 cases from January to June 2021.

Murder with 33 incidents followed; then theft with 32; physical injury, 24; robbery, 17; carnapping of motorcycle. 11; homicide, 9; and carnapping of motor vehicle with 1 case.

Crime incidents dropped by 22%

Meantime, the number of crime incidents in Region 2 dropped by 22.30% for the first semester of 2021 with 3,397 incidents recorded as compared to the 4,372 crimes documented on the same period last year.

Of the 3,397 incidents, 2,760 falls under the Peace and Order Indicator while 673 is under the Public Safety Indicator.

Moreover, on the implementation of the Simultaneous Anti- Criminality Law Enforcement Operations (SACLEO), 1,531 violators of special laws were arrested.

According to Police Colonel Emil Tumibay, the Chief of Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division of PRO II, the decrease of crime incidents in the Cagayan Valley region is credited to the holistic crime prevention efforts of the uniformed personnel as well as the strict implementation of the minimum health protocols which limited the movement and interaction of the people.
