TABUK CITY, Kalinga – A worker at a rice-buying station was arrested in a police buy-bust operation in Barangay Battikin, Bulanao, Tabuk City, shortly after noon on Sunday, November 1, even as the country observed All Saints’ Day.

The operation was conducted by the Tabuk City Police Station and its drug enforcement unit as part of the continuing campaign against illegal drugs.

Police reportedly recovered from the suspect one medium-sized transparent heat-sealed plastic sachet containing a white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu, a genuine ₱500 bill used as buy-bust money, and an Oppo mobile phone.

The suspect, whose identity and details are withheld pending investigation, was brought to the Kalinga Provincial Hospital for drug testing before being turned over to the Tabuk City Police Station for documentation and the filing of appropriate charges for alleged violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Before the operation, personnel involved in the buy-bust activity attended a briefing at the Tabuk City Police Station led by Police Lieutenant Ramon Mamanteo.

The arrest came amid a series of anti-drug operations in Tabuk City. On September 13, police arrested a 21-year-old man in a separate buy-bust operation in Barangay Bulanao Norte after he allegedly sold an undercover operative a sachet containing 0.5 gram of suspected shabu, valued at ₱3,400. Another 26-year-old man was arrested in a similar operation in Barangay Dagupan West on September 16.

More recently, on October 25, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Cordillera arrested a 43-year-old Tabuk resident in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Ipil, seizing suspected marijuana and marijuana oil worth an estimated ₱147,000.

Authorities continue to urge the public to report suspected illegal drug activities to law enforcement agencies.
