Rizal, Kalinga – The Philippine National Police (PNP) in this town launched its ‘Pailaw’ project today, May 13, purposely to install solar lights in crime prone areas and public places.

Rizal Chief of Police PCPT George Acob said the project is initially implemented in Barangay Romualdez with the setting up of 12-units of solar lights near the barangay hall.

Acob reveals that officials of said barangay had been actively involved in the anti-criminality campaigns of the police.

Meanwhile, the project, he said, would benefit specially the young people frequenting the place to do their school requirements.

“Kasi dun po sa area, medyo malakas po ‘yung signal, dun po mismo ‘yung mga kabataan natin gumagawa ng mga modules nila,” he said.

Aside from being environmentally friendly, the use of solar lights, he said, will also be economically beneficial to the barangay since they do not have to be paying electric bills.

“Para hindi na po sila magbabayad ng kuryente, alam naman po natin ‘yung IRA ng barangay konti lang po. Yung solar na lang po ang naisip namin na ilagay dun para less financial burden po sa kanila,” he said.

Apart from Romualdez, the law enforcers are also eyeing ‘to light’ other barangays like Barangay San Pascual, having identified it as a crime prone area.

Said ‘Pailaw’ project of PNP Rizal is funded under the End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC).
