Road mishaps in Mt. Province kills two


Bontoc, Mt. Province – Two individuals died in separate road accidents on Sunday, August 8 in Mt. Province, which involved two trucks falling into deep ravines.


The first incident happened in Barangay Poblacion, Natonin, around 12 noon yesterday. A certain Nolie Sobia, 49, was driving an Isuzu Elf truck on his way to Paracelis after collecting scraps in Natonin when he suddenly lost brakes.


The truck, with its driver and passengers, went off the road and plunged into a 70-meter-deep ravine. Rescuers were able to get the victims, but one of the passengers died.


While the driver and five other passengers survived with manageable injuries, Cornelio Conjurado Jr. succumbed to multiple traumatic organ injuries,

Meantime, the second incident took place two hours later in Barangay Talubin, Bontoc, involving a mini dump truck that fell into a 250-meter ravine.


According to local reports, the driver identified as a certain Renny Pey-agen, 33, went to deliver steel bars in Can-eo, Bontoc, when on his way back home, he lost control of the steering wheel.


Pey-agen was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician at the Bontoc General Hospital.
