‘Saan nga amin ket maikkan ti asawa, isunga sayaatem’ – Mayor Dickpus during mass wedding

Lubuagan, Kalinga – Mayor Charisma Ann Dickpus underscored the importance of marriage, saying that commitment and being true to one’s promise should be kept by couples.

Dickpus, during the solemnizing of the marriage of 18 couples on February 28, 2022, at a Mass Wedding at the Eco-Tourism and Cultural Center in Barangay Poblacion, said it is a blessing to be given a partner in life and that God-given gift should not be taken for granted.

“Marriage ket maysa a commitment dayta a sapata a maipaay iti Apo. Haan met nga amin a tao ket maikkan iti bendisyon iti asawa, so inikkan da ka iti Apo, dapat a nga sayaatem nga ikomitar kenni Apo Diyos daytoy,” she said.

Dickpus, upon assumption of office in 2019, initiated the annual Mass Wedding, which is sponsored by the Municipal Local Government Unit of Lubuagan. The event is scheduled every February wherein priests and pastors from the different sectors are invited to give spiritual messages and to bless and pray over couples getting married.

The mayor added that this is Lubuagan LGU’s way to help couples who want to tie the knot but cannot afford a lavish wedding.

“Ikkan tayo iti tiyansa dagitoy nga couples. Adu pay gamin dagitoy haan nagkaskasar isu nga every year nga i-conduct tayo daytoy tapnu instead nga mapan da iman aggas-gasto, datayo nga LGU iti tumulong met nga manggasto kadagitoy a kayat da met nga agkasar,” she said.

Advice to newlywed couples

Meanwhile, Dickpus advised the 18 couples who got married during the 2022 Mass Wedding to always keep their vows sacred and to fulfill their commitments to each other.

“Istamaren yu ah, gapu ta nagsapata kayo iti imatang ni Apo ken iti imatang dagiti tattao. Nu kayat yu nga maging successful iti marriage yu, agtungpal kayo kadagiay commitment and promises yu. Ta nu inaramid mo iti nasayaat, sigurado met lang nga iti nasayaat met lang iti agsubli iti pamilya,” she said.

It could be recalled that on February 28, 2020, 25 couples got married at a Mass Wedding. But in 2021, the mass wedding was suspended due to the pandemic.
