Santa Marcela, Apayao – Mayor Evelyn B. Martinez and the Officialdom led the formal launching of the Balay Binnadang – these are 50 concrete housing units under the Pabahay Project of the National Housing Authority (NHA) in Barangay San Juan with basic amenities, purposely provided for IP families in town.

Said program was done in partnership with the Office of the Provincial Governor, Office of the Congresswoman, DENR, PNP, BFP, DA, BLGU, IPs, LDRRMC, and other stakeholders.

At present, thirty-five (35) families from the Agta tribe who suffered from natural calamities are residing in those houses and fifteen (15) from other indigenous groups.

In her message, Mayor Martinez encouraged the residents to take good care of the facilities provided to them, relaying that the project could not have been done without the support of Congresswoman Eleanor Bulut-Begtang and Governor Elias C. Bulut Jr.

As for the LGU’s part, the LCE’s initiative provided electrification of the housing units.

Mayor Martinez believes these homes will uplift the underprivileged in the area, adding the possibility of opening a learning center and installation of a safer water system.
