Sta. Marcela, Apayao bolsters Solid Waste Management Technologies adoption

Santa Marcela, Apayao - Following the forum on Solid Waste Management organized by the Provincial Science and Technology Office(PSTO) in Santa Marcela last Oct. 17, Solid Waste Management technologies are anticipated to be operated in the municipality early next year.

Said DOST-developed technologies include a bioreactor, a plastic pyrolisis system, a portable biogas digester, a charcoal briquetting machine, a solar biomas dryer, an electric plastic densifier, a rice hull gasifier combustor, and a plastic waste pyrolysis system.


These will be utilized in Santa Marcela to reduce solid waste and assure compliance with proper waste management. They are likewise expected to give income to the residents to boost their current standard of living.


In an interview with PSTO, the agency said this campaign is a project component of the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology entry point, in collaboration with the involved stakeholders, namely the Office of Provincial Environment and Natural Resources (PENR), Municipal Environment and Natural Resources (MENRO), and Youth for Environment in Schools-Organization (YES-O).


Some of these solid waste management technologies will be introduced next year and shall be funded by the Apayao Provincial ENR and Santa Marcela MENRO.


The establishment of a provincial waste processing center, meantime, is being planned by the Provincial ENR.
