Santa Marcela LGU delivers immediate aid to two flooded barangays as town suffers from heavy rains

Santa Marcela, Apayao - The Municipal Government Unti of Santa Marcela under Mayor Evelyn B. Martinez responded quickly to the two flooded barangays in town, providing 120 food packs to aid affected families.


The town of Santa Marcela is one of the lowlying municipalities in Apayao Province and whose territory is part of the mighty Apayao-Abulug River.


Due to the heavy rains brought by the shearline affecting Luzon, Barangay Consuelo and San Juan, flood prone areas, experienced flloding in many of their puroks. According to Punong Barangay Perfecto Domingo and Teresita Ven, respectively, most of those affected by flooding were those nearby creeks and rivers and low-lying fields.

“Idi nakita tayo bayat iti panagmonmonitor tayo ti mapaspasamak iti lugar tayo, I immediately ordered the MDRRMC and MSWDO to release aid to the affected barangays of San Juan and Consuelo. Sapay koma ta saan nga agtuloy-tuloy daytoy ta sigurado nga ado manen ti maapektaran gapu ti layos. Karaman dagiti pagbiagan ti umili,” said Mayor Martinez.


Of the total distributed food assistance, 80 packs were provided to Consuelo and 40 to San Juan. This was done through the joint efforts of the quick response team of the LGU comprising the MDRRMO and the MSWDO.


The LGU pursuant to Mayor Martinez’s directive continues to inform the public of the necessary safety measures especially during these rainy seasons, to avoid any casualty.


In November 2024, Santa Marcela, Apayao, suffered over P25 million in losses from high-value crops and more than P3.6 million in fishery damages due to Typhoon Marce .


The municipality was also heavily impacted by the displacement of 63 families and significant damage to housing and infrastructure.
