Senate aspirant Greco Belgica to continue ‘campaign against illegal drugs’

Tabuk City, Kalinga — Senatorial candidate Greco Belgica, in his meeting with the Kalinga Media, underscored the continuous campaign against illegal drugs as one of his top priorities if he wins the election.

Belgica said one most of the senatorial candidates are not talking about this huge problem and if the country allows a soft stance the drugs will again beset the nation with great possibility of the country becoming a narco state.

During the press conference held during his visit in Kalinga on April 21, 2022, Belgica likewise mentioned the significance of strengthening the Barangay Anti – Drug Abuse Council in the campaign against illegal drugs, saying the grass roots level approach is still most effective.

With the barangay officials and workforce working together to stop entry and use of illegal drugs in the community, it will be easier for the police to perform arrests and deploy neutralizers as well as for the local government and other agencies to provide programs.

With regard to the issue on marijuana in Kalinga – the non-stop burning of illegal weeds and the confiscation of by products, Belgica again pointed to BADAC significant role in addressing this problem.

“Ganyan po yan kasi business yan eh, so tuloy tuloy po talaga diyan, yung strengthening ng BADAC is important because yung BADAC po … yun po ang information bank ng drugs. So alam nila kung saan ang plantation, alam nila kung saan ang laboratoryo, alam nila kung sino ang pusher, alam nila kung sino ang bagong tao, yan po ang nagiging intelligence ng law enforcers,” he explained.

He further noted that should he win, he will be using the oversight authority of the senate to make sure that the law enforcers in the country are doing their functions in the fight against illegal drugs.

“We have to put the law enforcers to task ‘coz the law enforcers know where it is and know who’s producing it. Ngayon if they’re on the take, walang mangyayari that’s why I will use the oversight authority of the senate, of the office that I may hold if I become senator to make sure that they produce the accomplishments needed,” he said.

Belgica served as the Chairman of the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission from March to October 2021.
