SP Tabuk authorizes establishment of Tree Park

Tabuk City, Kalinga ─ A Tree Park promoting ecological balance and climate change mitigation and adoption will soon be established, developed, and maintained in this city.


This is after the members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod granted the authority for the City Government of Tabuk to enter into Memorandum of Agreement during their regular session held on July 08.


Said Tree Park will be established in a particular area within a barangay city or municipality exclusively for growing trees of any kind, flowering ornamental, that have scenic, aesthetic and ecological value.


The agreement is between the City Government, Kalinga State University (KSU), and the Philippine Institute of Environmental Planners (PIEP) Kalinga Sub-Chapter. Said agreement aims to promote ecological balance and climate change mitigation and adaptation.


Philippine Institute of Environmental Planners (PIEP) Kalinga Sub-Chapter is a private, non-profit, professional organization that promotes, advances, and raises the study, practice, and development of environmental planning in the Philippines.


PIEP will prepare the site development plan of the proposed tree park and develop an action plan for the implementation of its environmental management activities/ participation. They shall also be in charge of the propagation of seedlings of the species to be planted at the tree park.

The city government will be responsible for providing technical support through trainings and seminars, provide resources for tree park development, and assisting the conduct of environmental activities such as tree planting and other related activities.


On the other hand, the Kalinga State University will allocate 1.5 hectares for the proposed tree park.


Added to that, the institution will be responsible for the propagation and maintenance of the tree park, conducts proper accounting of the trees planted in the tree park for future considerations, and provide material and technical support through capability building trainings.


KSU will also provide security of the identified part to ensure that no portion of the allocated land shall be destroyed and encroached.


The project is in line with Executive Order No. 26, otherwise known as the National Greening Program, supporting the state’s policy to provide sustainable development for poverty reduction, food security, biodiversity, conservation, and climate change mitigation and adaptation.
