Tabuk City, Kalinga―Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Tabuk City are set to create an ordinance imposing penalties and to apprehend individuals involved in the illegal sale and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines procured by the national government.

Vice Mayor Bernard Glenn Dao-as and members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod referred to the request for the crafting of an ordinance to prohibit any person or entity from engaging in the sale, distribution, or administration of vaccines for profit during their regular session held on July 29.

This is following the request transmitted from the Local Chief Executive dated July 26 that is based on an advisory from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) amid reports of vaccine-for-sale schemes which has prompted the Philippine National Police and the National Bureau of Investigation to mount an investigation.

The advisory reads the vaccine-for-sale schemes are initiated by certain individuals or groups taking advantage of the pandemic and the desire of many people to get vaccinated as early as possible.

Of which the ordinance shall be yielded to penalize those who do not have authority to sell vaccines that are owned or donated to the government, and those who also promise to provide vaccination slots or schedules in exchange for some valuable consideration.

In relation to this, the Philippine National Police is reminded to work closely with their respective Local Government Units (LGUs) to act on reports of the vaccine-for-sale schemes to ensure that perpetrators are punished to the full extent of the law.
