Student in Ilagan, Isabela struck by bullet after soldier indiscriminately fired Glock 17

Isabela, Philippines – A fine Saturday afternoon at the river in Batong Labang, Ilagan was disturbed when a 50-year-old soldier indiscriminately discharged his firearm, injuring a 22-year-old student with a stray bullet.

 

Local media reports revealed that the suspect is a native of Bucloc, Abra, and an active member of the Philippine Army. He is currently deployed at the 5th Infantry Division in Gamu, Isabela.

 

Based on the initial investigation of the police, the suspect was in the area, drinking with his fellow soldiers, when he went to the hidden part of the river bank and fired indiscriminately past 4:00 p.m. this June 21.

 

Little did he know, one stray bullet went straight to the shoulder of a 22-year-old student who was in the area. The injured student was immediately taken to the hospital while the barangay officials who witnessed the incident called the police.

 

Responding authorities then arrested the 50-year-old suspect when he failed to show pertinent documents for the firearm he used. The cops recovered a unit of Glock 17 Cal. 9mm pistol, magazines, bullets, and 11 fired cartridge cases of Cal. 9mm.

 

The accused was taken to the Ilagan City Police Station where he is to be charged for Illegal Discharge of Firearm, Illegal Possession of Firearm, and Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Physical Injury.
