TABUDAN, Kalinga — Abra will host the 2027 Cordillera Season of Creation kickoff at Kaparkan Falls, with government agencies, Church representatives and Indigenous communities expected to join efforts to protect the region’s natural resources.

Father Jeorge Mamisen announced the planned regional kickoff during the culmination of the Season of Creation and the provincial kickoff of Indigenous Peoples’ Month 2026 on October 10 along the Tanudan River in Taloctoc, Tanudan, Kalinga.

Mamisen said the initiative is no longer solely a Church program, as the Season of Creation has been institutionalized through a provincial ordinance signed by Kalinga Governor James S. Edduba.

“Nalawag kuma nga daytoy Season of Creation ket it is not purely and absolutely a program of the Apostolic Vicariate of Tabuk since it was already enacted as an ordinance, it is a government program en,” Mamisen said.

He said Abra’s Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) is expected to take a more active role in organizing future activities, while the Church will continue to provide spiritual guidance.

Mamisen also encouraged government agencies, environmental advocates, Church representatives and local communities to participate in the 2027 kickoff and help make environmental protection a shared responsibility.

The Season of Creation brings together faith communities and environmental advocates to promote care for the environment. In the Cordillera, the initiative also highlights Indigenous values and customary practices that emphasize respect for rivers, forests and ancestral lands.

The planned regional gathering in Abra is expected to strengthen cooperation among government institutions, the Church and Indigenous communities in protecting the region’s natural heritage.
