BONTOC, Mountain Province — Farmers in Barangay Bayyo are saving travel time to their fields following the completion of a farm-to-market road, one of four projects finished under the municipality’s ₱52.5-million Local Government Support Fund (LGSF).

Resident Ringo Dayowan said the new road has shortened trips to their farms, allowing them to transport themselves and their agricultural needs using a hand tractor more easily.

Before the road was built, travel to the fields could take 30 minutes to an hour. The new route has reduced travel time, easing farmers’ daily trips and the movement of agricultural products.

“Idi it will take us 30 minutes to one hour nga iyapan idjai talon jai kuliglig, itatta nga adda jai farm to market road, binmaba jai travel time mi. So dakkel nga banag jai,” Dayowan said.

The farm-to-market road is among eight development projects worth ₱52.5 million across six barangays in Bontoc. Four projects had been completed as of September 30, 2026, according to the municipal government.

The other completed projects are renewable energy-based pathway solar lights in Barangays Alab Proper and Balili, and the rehabilitation of the Level II water system in Barangay Talubin.

The solar lights are expected to benefit 238 residents in Alab Proper and 230 in Balili by illuminating community pathways, while the water system project aims to improve water supply reliability in Talubin.

Other development works remain ongoing, including the upgrading of the Level II water system in Barangay Maligcong, funded with ₱2.5 million under the 2025 Support to Barangay Development Program.

The rehabilitation of the Bontoc Public Market in Barangay Poblacion is also underway under the ₱30-million LGSF Financial Assistance to Local Government Units for 2025. The first phase has been completed, while the second phase remains in progress.

The LGSF provides national government assistance to local government units for priority development projects and services.

With four of the eight projects completed, the municipality is continuing work on initiatives intended to improve access to basic services and support livelihoods across Bontoc.
